ABOUT KALKAN

THE TOWN

Kalkan is a small town built on the slopes of the bay. From the harbour, narrow cobbled streets run up the hill. You can spend hours browsing traditional lace and pottery, sampling a Turkish coffee (with Turkish Delight of course!), lining up the next leather handbag or eyeing up a restaurant for dinner (there are more than 100 rooftop restaurants!).

Wherever you go, you will be met with the most friendly welcome.

GETTING AROUND

The town centre is easily walkable - it will take about 10 minutes from the harbour to the car park at the top of the town. It's a traffic-free centre, although the odd bike or scooter comes by from time to time. Our apartment is about 10 minutes walk into town or a local taxi will take 2-3 minutes and cost about £2. If you're at one of the many beach clubs, take their water taxi for free into town.

If you're venturing further afield, you will need a rental car or a taxi. Alternatively, there are several local tour companies who pick up from the apartment and take you to some of the local attractions

RELAXING

One of the attractions of Kalkan is the slow pace of life. You can spend hours sitting out on the terrace, watching the boats come and go. There is a sandy beach in the town centre but most people tend to relax either by their pool or at one of the many beach clubs. Our favourite is Mahal Beach Club which is about 10 minutes walk away from town. The Palm Beach Club is the nearest, less than 5 minutes walk. In the evenings you are totally spoilt for choice of restaurants. There are more than 100 rooftop restaurants serving excellent food - turkish, italian, asian and some of the best steaks you will have tasted anywhere!
